Most online calculators apply a single value per state — ignoring dramatic district-level variation in traditional units. Here are the most common traps:

Uttar Pradesh Kachha vs Pucca Bigha

Western UP (Saharanpur, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Noida) uses Kachha Bigha ≈ 6,919 sq ft. Eastern UP (Lucknow, Varanasi, Gorakhpur) uses Pucca Bigha = 27,225 sq ft — nearly 4× larger. Almost every generic calculator uses Pucca for all of UP.

❌ Generic: 5 Bigha (Saharanpur) → 3.13 acres [WRONG]
✅ Correct: 5 Kachha Bigha → 0.794 acres

Punjab / Haryana 3× Overestimation

Punjab and Haryana Bigha = 9,070 sq ft. Most calculators apply UP's Pucca Bigha (27,225 sq ft) to Punjab queries — overstating your land by 300%.

Rajasthan Desert vs Eastern Districts

Western desert districts (Jodhpur, Bikaner, Barmer, Jaisalmer) use Kachha Bigha ≈ 17,424 sq ft. Eastern districts (Jaipur, Alwar, Kota) use Pucca Bigha = 27,225 sq ft. Generic calculators overestimate western Rajasthan by ~56%.

South India Bigha Doesn't Exist Here

Tamil Nadu uses Ground (2,400 sq ft), Cent (435.6 sq ft), and Kuzhi. AP/Telangana use Guntha and Anakanam. If a calculator shows Bigha for these states — it is wrong.

Bihar Northern District Variation

Standard Bihar Bigha = 27,225 sq ft (Patna, Muzaffarpur etc). But in Purnia, Araria, Kishanganj divisions, traditional Lagga measurement practices can shift local Bigha between 17,000–32,000 sq ft. Always verify with your Patwari in these areas.

Madhya Pradesh Chambal/Gwalior Bigha

Most of MP uses standard Bigha (27,225 sq ft). But in Gwalior, Morena, Bhind, and Chambal division, traditional Bighas are often 12,000–18,000 sq ft — roughly half the state standard.

Nali is a traditional hill unit used in Uttarakhand's Garhwal and Kumaon hill districts. 1 Nali = 2,160 sq ft = 200.67 sq m = 0.049 acres. Sub-unit: 1 Nali = 12 Mutthi; 1 Mutthi = 180 sq ft. In the Terai districts (Dehradun, Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar), the standard Pucca Bigha (27,225 sq ft) is used instead.
