Period number (1 = first 1/8 of day, 8 = last 1/8)
Rahu Kaal is an inauspicious period that occurs every day. It is ruled by Rahu, the shadow planet in Vedic astrology. Starting any new or important work during Rahu Kaal is generally avoided as it is believed to bring obstacles and delays.
Rahu Kaal is one-eighth of the total daylight duration. For example, if the day has 12 hours of daylight, Rahu Kaal lasts 1.5 hours (90 minutes). The duration varies with sunrise and sunset times throughout the year.
Yamaganda Kaal (also called Yamghanta) is another inauspicious period each day, ruled by Yama, the god of death. Like Rahu Kaal, it is one-eighth of the daylight duration and falls at a different time on each weekday.
Gulika Kaal (or Mandi) is a period ruled by Saturn's offspring, Gulika. It is considered inauspicious for starting new ventures. It is also one-eighth of the daylight period, occurring at different times on different weekdays.
Abhijit Muhurat is the most auspicious period of the day, occurring around solar noon (approximately 11:45 AM to 12:30 PM). It is considered highly beneficial for starting important new work and is one of the best muhurats in Hindu astrology.
