ℹ️ How it works
  1. Enter your loan amount, rate, and tenure
  2. Set your extra monthly pre-payment amount
  3. For home loans, enable Section 24 / 80C to see after-tax savings
  4. Compare side-by-side — interest saved and tenure cut

Pre-payment is applied to principal first each month, shortening the effective tenure.

Frequently Asked Questions

Any extra amount paid above the regular EMI is applied directly to the outstanding principal. A lower principal means less interest accrues in the next cycle, which accelerates payoff and dramatically cuts total interest — especially in the early years when the interest portion of EMI is highest.
As per RBI guidelines, banks and NBFCs cannot charge a pre-payment penalty on floating-rate home loans taken by individuals. Fixed-rate loans may carry a 2% penalty. Always check your loan agreement before making a lump-sum prepayment.
Under Section 24(b) of the Income Tax Act, you can claim a deduction of up to ₹2 lakh per year on the interest paid on a home loan for a self-occupied property. This effectively reduces your net cost of borrowing.
The principal repayment portion of your home loan EMI qualifies for deduction under Section 80C, up to a combined limit of ₹1.5 lakh per year. This is only available under the Old Tax Regime.
If your effective loan rate (after tax benefit) is higher than the post-tax return you can earn by investing, pre-payment wins. For home loans at 8.5%, after Section 24 at 30% bracket the effective rate is ~6.3%. If equity SIP reliably returns 10–12%, investing may beat pre-payment for long tenures. For car/personal loans at 10–15%, pre-payment almost always wins.
